Therapy for Postpartum Depression & Anxiety

Crying spells, baby blues, fatigue, feeling detached from your newborn, sadness, endless worry….not exactly what you expected after giving birth to something in theory you should love so much.

But these feelings are common.

I provide emotional support to new moms coping with the difficulties of postpartum depression and anxiety. We will talk about ways to cope with painful emotions, mood swings, self-doubt, insomnia, and difficulty bonding with your baby.

Therapy can help you navigate this tough transition.

Get support and learn how to manage through this time where everything might feel overwhelming and you just want to be alone. I provide a safe space to talk about how stressful and scary it can be learning how to be a parent.

Emotional Support for Difficult Pregnancies

Not everyone has an easy pregnancy. Many women suffer from chronic pain, insomnia, body image issues, and fatigue during pregnancy.

These symptoms can be debilitating.

Struggling to get out of bed, focus, commute to work, and go about your life when suffering from a difficult pregnancy is a common reality for many expecting mothers. I provide emotional support to help moms-to-be handle the many obstacles that arise during the prenatal period.

Find guidance, encouragement, and learn skills to manage both the physical and emotional discomfort that comes with preparing for a new baby using Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT).

ACT teaches us new ways to deal with hard emotions and the realities of physical pain that come with being pregnant. I’m here to offer empathy, validation, and assistance when you’re feeling depressed and/or anxious while pregnant. It’s a lot to juggle trying to eat healthy, get enough sleep, exercise, do well at your job, tend to your relationships, and prepare your home when you’re in pain or exhausted by a difficult pregnancy.

Psychotherapy with Oakland therapist, Chloe Demisch, can provide the psychological support you need to thrive through a difficult prenatal experience.

The toll that pregnancy and birth takes on our bodies is extraordinary. Many things change and never return to normal. And this is a really hard reality.

There can be grief and loss associated with being pregnant and postpartum recovery.

Accepting our new shape and state of physical health is tough. The loss of our previous self can make us feel uncertain, worried, and sad. We want things to be the way they used to. That includes the way we look and feel, not to mention our old routine and habits.

But with birth comes an entirely new chapter.

This adjustment is challenging when it goes unexpectedly or slower than we want it to. We can feel alone. There are a lot of comparisons that begin to occur. Why don’t I look like that? Will this pain every go away? When will I feel like myself again?

Psychotherapy can help you begin this journey of a new you, physically and mentally.

Building skills, new ways of coping, understanding limitations, setting goals, a place to talk and cry are the things that I can offer through therapy. I help many women with as they recover from pregnancy create a life and body they’re proud of and embrace those things they can’t control.
